AKL Freestyle Rock'n'Roll club is as its name implies, a freestyle Rock and Roll social dance club. We are a registered organization. Our main aim is to keep up the friendly, social atmosphere our club stands for, and to share the joy of Rock’n’Roll dancing. We operate on a weekly basis and prior to the social dancing, we offer ongoing beginners dance classes. On request we do run Intermediate and Advanced workshops. We introduce our students to a variety of moves. Some of these moves originate from, Jive, Swing, Ceroc, Salsa and of course Rock'n'Roll 50s & 60s style.

AKL Freestyle Rock'n'Roll Club started at the end of February 2007, at the Avondale bowling club, a fantastic venue, with great facilities: Licensed premises, comfortable seating, secure parking, great atmosphere and most important a dynamic dance floor. We have a fantastic team of friendly supporters contributing to our lessons, to make it a great success. We are pleased with the growing attendance of students.

We cater for all age groups and can organize dance partners if needed. Everybody is welcome!

The club organises a wide range of social events such as over night trips to different dances, barbeques, Hangi’s, picnics… We intend to continue organizing these types of social events for our club supporters and are open for any suggestions.

Who runs AKL Freestyle?

Hedo Rientsma, born in Holland, brought up in New Zealand, is the club president and founder of AKL Freestyle Rock’n’Roll. He is a passionate dancer himself and driven to keep a welcoming dance atmosphere in his club. He teaches our Rock’n’Roll classes. He has several years experience in teaching small and large classes.
